When she settles into her new apartment in south-eastern Queensland (Australia), Carey Barling quickly realizes a major problem. In her bathroom, she immediately notices the very dirty ceramic tiles which she knows will give her a hard time. However, it is out of the question to use expensive household products with a not always very effective effect! Neither one nor two, she goes to the four corners of the house to bring together some ecological natural ingredients and the tools to carry out this household chore. Her trick for cleaning the slabs of the dirty tiling worked so well that she then shared it on a Facebook group called “Mums who clean” (Editor’s note: “mothers who clean”) where she will emulate to the point of being then relayed to the four corners of the Internet, on the radio, and even in the columns of the DailyMail.

Although she did not share the exact proportions, she explained step by step how she had achieved this stunning result. She had started by mixing hot water with simple washing-up liquid in a bucket. Then she added to this soapy water a dash of lye (St Marc laundry soda crystals). It’s THE secret to boost washing and remove very encrusted dirt and mold. This ingredient has boosted the cleaning and degreasing power of the washing-up liquid. No need to overdose it! And of course, you should also plan a little elbow grease, especially if you plan to make a tiled floor, walls and tile joints with your home cleaning product …

Last step in her plan: mom leaves the classic mop in the closet! She has it substitute for a cleaning brush. Enough to scrape and remove dirt without having to scrub too much. In minutes, she gets to scrub the entire floor and just has to rinse and wipe dry.

Other detergents that may be useful?

No need for bleach! For more cleanliness and to degrease all the stains while allowing to descale any traces of tartar in the kitchen or the bathroom, you can use other natural products from grandmother that you already use in your interiors. To clean well, there is the White vinegar or lemon juice (both to be avoided on porous cement-like coverings) as well as milk (dark floor) or the container of window cleaner (less natural, but ideal on a light or white floor).

The baking soda or the clay stone allow them to remove stains. And thelinseed oil is the ideal product to bring shine. As to black soap, it is also an excellent cleaning product to be used in small quantities on a sponge in the event of a stain or in the recipe explained above to replace the washing-up liquid.
